This day I spoke on the verses from the Sunday mass- as well as a few verses from CCCF http://cccfellowship.com/

There were a few common themes from both churches- and I mentioned that on the video.

The Indian pastor who spoke at CCCF did mention that this Sunday was Pentecost Sunday- which many of the older churches recognize.

In Acts 2 we read the famous passage of the Holy Spirit coming to the early church- [here’s my teaching on the chapter- https://ccoutreach87.com/2017/01/26/acts-2/ ]

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

Acts 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

Acts 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

Acts 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

Acts 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

Acts 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

Acts 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Jesus promised us he would send the Spirit [Here’s my post where I covered it https://ccoutreach87.com/2018/05/18/sunday-sermon-27/ ]

JN 15:26-27; 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father,
he will testify to me.
And you also testify,
because you have been with me from the beginning.

“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.
He will glorify me,
because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine;
for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine
and declare it to you.”

[Here’s my teaching on these 2 chapters- https://ccoutreach87.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/john-15/

https://ccoutreach87.wordpress.com/2016/09/15/john-16/ ]

And the miraculous event came with a sign-

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

So God would do something this day- that had to do with a speaking gift [The sign was TONGUES of fire].

Sure enough- he did!

The early believers spoke in languages unknown to them- and this caught the attention of the others who gathered this day to celebrate Pentecost.

I did cover some church history- and a few other things.

Paul showed us the difference between the gifts and the fruit of the Spirit [pasted below in the verses section]

The Corinthians had the gifts functioning- but were not spiritually mature.

In Galatians we read about the fruit-

In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit. Gal. 5

I ended with a verse from the psalms-

Psalm 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

Yes indeed- on that great day of Pentecost- God’s ministers were set on fire by the Spirit- their tongues were loosed- they spoke about the wonderful works of God.

And that fire of God- the message of Jesus spoken through a persecuted church- would set the world aflame- until this very day-

It reminds me of a verse I quoted the other day on one of my ‘roll- out’ videos-

New Living Translation
“I have come to set the world on fire, and I wish it were already burning! Lk. 12:49

He did indeed set that fire- and it started with some ‘burning’ tongues.

All the above verses were from the official readings from the Catholic lectionary- [with the exception of the verse right above]- from the Mass for this Sunday- also pasted below in the verses section.
