See past the negativity and stand up for the good in the world.
You see it all around you. A negative news media selling hysteria for clicks. A social media climate run by a deep attachment to outrage. Maybe it’s a recent, highly publicized mass shooting. Or maybe it’s the all too visible pandemic despair you’ve all lived through for a year.
There’s a way, though, to turn the tide. See beyond the darkness. You’ll find it if you look, but don’t dwell on the negative. For as much bad as exists, there stands just as much good (if not more) ready to meet it. Though it may be more vocal, darkness doesn’t exist without light. Instead, look for the positive in every situation.
Where you once focused on despair, look for opportunity. When you’re stuck in the past, look to the hope on the horizon. This one small change will rewire your brain to accept difficulty with grace. You’ll find yourself jumping at new situations, rather than cowering from them. But it goes beyond your mindset. Thoughts over time become actions.
Join the light. Be a part of the good by standing for what you believe. Make the choice to make a difference. It doesn’t matter how small your action is, because the change comes in the action itself. When you do what’s right, what you believe, you leave good in the world. And that good compounds. And when you have enough people beside you, each doing their small part, together you’ve created a force so powerful it can stand up to the overwhelming negativity surrounding you.
Despite how it may sometimes feel, there is more good in the world than bad. More light than dark. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add to it. You can always make the choice to make the day brighter. And it starts with removing your blindfold, and seeing the light all around you.
