I am an eclectic wife and mother of two relatively normal children. I spent my early career building technical teams around the world during the dot com era, and ten years ago launched my own business helping entrepreneurs and small businesses go global by embracing technology and online marketing. My focus is connection and collaboration, and my personal business motto is “Content is king, but community and connection builds the kingdom.” I have worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs over the past 3 years. I run Heidi Totten Consulting (www.heiditotten.com) and The Eclectic Entrepreneurs (www.eclecticentrepreneurs.com) as a way to help the most people possible during my one crazy life. In my spare time, I am the Executive Director of 100 Humanitarians International, (www.100humanitarians.com) a grassroots non-profit that focuses on mentoring families in economic development in Kenya, Africa. I have taken over 200 people on 18 expeditions to Kenya, where we mentor and work with families and communities, immerse ourselves in the Maasai culture, and of course, go on safari in the #1 safari destination in the world. My happy place is hauling down roads in Kenya in dusty jeeps, but I am also known for my love of tacos, guacamole, and chocolate.

I'm all in, and introducing myself to the Heroes world.

I'm Heidi Totten. I'm happily married with two kids and living in Utah. I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I run two businesses - Heidi Totten Consulting, which is centered around Tech Strategy for entrepreneurs, and 100 Humanitarians International, which is a humanitarian organization focused on economic development and self-reliance in families.

I homeschooled for 5 years, took a break, and now my kids are doing distance learning. I laugh at what they are required to do in the context of what the world is like now, but we are blending a lot of stuff right now, anyway.

For the past five years, I've taken 200 people on expeditions to Kenya to work with families, including my own family. Over the past year, we have built a guest house there, as part of the Emparnat Cultural Centre. Our goal is to help preserve the culture, traditions, and stories of the Maasai Tribe.

I hope I can make a positive contribution to Heroes with all of this, and look forward to connecting with you.

  • On every expedition I can feel myself begin to transition emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually back to Kenya. It's how I've learned to manage trips. I do a lot of visualization around what the trip represents, the impact we want to make, and I literally do a mental walk through the entire experience for weeks leading up to it.

Every expedition contributes to a much bigger picture. Is that picture clear in my brain? Yup. It exists there, constantly reminding me why I personally chose to do this.

If I could leave a legacy, it would be to encourage everyone to find their Kenya. To find the experience that they want to have that transforms them into who they are meant to be. When I ask, "Do you want to go to Kenya?" that's what I'm really asking. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The experiences I'm creating now in Kenya, center around helping those traveling as much as helping in our communities. We need Kenya, the love and connection there, more than Kenya needs us. โค

If I've learned anything over the past 6 years, it's that. Love and connection to the people, the land, God, and who I am in this big wide wonderful world ๐ŸŒ

I'm excited for the amazing people coming with me this time. They are all examples to me of people who are contributing their hearts and gifts to the world. It will be a gift to me, experiencing Kenya through their eyes.

My next trip is November, and then March for my 50th birthday.

The tree is my view when I wake up in Africa. ๐Ÿ™

  • We are going to be holding weekly sew-a-thons for HopeSaCs (fabric thermal cookers), garden towers, and underwear to go to families all over the world.

Do you need to know how to sew? Nope. We have patterns to cut out as well, and anyone can help.

Watch for details and bring friends! This is an incredible opportunity for teens to learn about some of the struggles that families experience around the world.

  • We have two incredible opportunities to come to Kenya with us this fall.

October is led by Marissa Waldrop, our Programs Director who has managed the Garden Tower Project over the past two years.

November is with Jason Hewlett and Allen Roberds and will be hosted by The Promise Institute.

    Both will include incredible experiences!

If you would like more information, please comment or message me. I've sent out about 20 information packets to people who want to join in!

  • Our next expedition is in August! Each group that goes helps fundraise to move our projects forward and keep our movement to help families going.

    We are raising funds for:

100 reusable feminine hygiene kits to donate to girls at a school we work with each year.
10 families to start a chicken enterprise. They will be able to sell eggs to create an income.
Funds to sponsor one of our high school students at a rescue center with their final year of school.

Plus, 1000 liter water tanks for 5 families to capture rainwater, and additional beehives to help fund ongoing needs in Kenya.

We will report to you on our progress in our Facebook group 100 Humanitarians International (www.100humanitarians.org) so you can see where your donations go!

    Every dollar makes a difference!

  • Today in Kenya:

Our teams can build 2-4 garden tower systems each day in Kenya in each community. That means that 10 to 20 families start on the path to growing their own vegetables in each community in a week.

Imagine if we had 100 communities in the world helping 10 families each week. That would be 1000 families each week. Or 52,000 families each year.

Because that's my goal. Just to start. ๐Ÿ˜Š
